• Why we need a right to be forgotten
(http://freespeechdebate.com/en/2012/02/why-we-need-a-right-to-be-forgotten/)
My topic :
People should have the right to be forgotten
What I hope to learn this source :
I want to find the facts that can refute the opposite topic 'right to be informed'
Notes :
The right to be forgotten is the way to keep the individual privacy and prevent violating personal information.
And due to the internet's characteristics(imperishability, anonymous) the personal information can be exposed easily
By the developing of SNS like facebook or Twitter, keeping privacy became harder
How to write your articulation
1) Write your argument in one sentence. Then, spend some time explaining it.
People should have the right to be forgotten.
Today, due to the rapid spread of internet information most of people can get an information easily on the google even though the information is the private. So a Spanish citizen lodged a complaint against a Spanish newspaper with the national Data Protection Agency and against Google Spain and Google Inc.
2) Explain how your research helped you find your argument. Or, in other words, how did your research evolve into your argument? Start with your research question.
My first research question was 'what is the positive effect if we have the right to be forgotten?' and this article
(http://freespeechdebate.com/en/2012/02/why-we-need-a-right-to-be-forgotten/) helped to give me a reason. And I continued to research about the what is the positive effect if we have the right to be informed, which is opposite opinion of me.
http://www.victimsofcrime.org/our-programs/dna-resource-center/untested-sexual-assault-kits/victims'-rights-and-sexual-assault-kits/right-to-be-informed, http://www.consumer.org.hk/Trade_Practice_Codes_and_Reports/2006100401/2006100401e_v1.pdf these articles gave me a opposite ideas.
3) New research questions What do you still need to know? What is your research plan?
⒜ What is the negative side of right to be forgotten and how to complement it.
⒝ The reasons that can refute the right to be informed.
⒞ The useful examples of the right to be forgotten.
4) Connections to the Harvard Sampler
In harvard sampler there is a chapter ' Internet Universalism'. Because of the increasing number of internet users and rapid spread of information, the Internet Universalism aroused. And anyone can find the others information whether it is private. And also in harvard sampler, there is a Internet Censorship. My topic is related with internet censorship little. Internet censorship is kind of controlling information and the right to be forgotten or the right to be infromed is also kind of controlling information.
